Why or What...

At the recent LifeChurch event we attended Craig addressed with staff the importance of WHY over WHAT.  That's one of the things I try to do constantly at TheBOD.  I spend a lot of time talking about values and priorities or the "why".  As most of you know I really don't like change... hehehe... The changes we make, it seems constantly, are changes in the what.  The methods.  We are always looking for better ways to do ministry, flesh out our values, and have greater impact on the world around us for Christ.  That is something that will not change... change will be a constant at TheBOD.  However, the things that won't change are the Essentials and the WHY of our existence.  There is comfort in knowing our beliefs and values are set, strong, and stable, there is energy and life in knowing we will remain relevant in our approach.  DON'T BLINK.

A day I will not soon forget.  Too much happened in one day for a normal Sunday Recap.  My goal is to post a series of photos with captions.  It all started with our greeters going over the top for the Sunday morning Experiences.  You guys ROCK!

What's next?

I often get asked, "How's the church doing?".  Most have heard and simply want to hear me say it or confirm it.  Toward the end of one of those conversations this week the asker said, "Did you ever imagine in you wildest dreams it could actually work?"... I paused... and said "Well, yes, I guess in my wildest dreams, I thought it could work."  I do lots of analysis as to why I think it works but mostly I just thank God for loving His church and His people to make it work and move on.  Krohn makes a strong point on his blog today as he recaps his thoughts from Catalyst.  The rules have changed and will continue to change.  The limits are broken, the ceiling removed.  No more box.  So what's your next step?  What are you going to do that will change the way the rest of the world views things?  What will you discover?  What will you create?  What is God calling you to, that in "your wildest dreams" seems impossible?  DON'T BLINK!

Age is relative

How old do you think Madonna is?  FIFTY!  Yep, she was born in 1958... and she still does her shows wearing basically her underwear.  And she still looks... well she looks like Madonna.  I've been laid up all week with a bad back.  I hate being stuck, unable to do anything.  I'm not a very good patient... ask my wife.  In planting TheBOD I think about age a lot as well.  I keep trying to figure out when I will become irrelevant.  How old is too old to be able to connect with the next generation?  At what point will I lose it?  So far I've come to the conclusion that it's not the years it's the heart.  It's the passion.  It's the willingness to grow and change.  It's flexibility in methods.  It's a willingness to pass the baton to the next generation and let them run.  Although you won't see me doing my thing in my underwear any time soon, you can expect that as long as I'm at the wheel we will aggressively move forward, doing everything we can to impact the world around us in a relevant way.  Sometimes it will be uncomfortable, although not as uncomfortable as me running around in my underwear, but still it will challenge our thinking... and that's OK... no better than OK, it's right!  DON'T BLINK! 

Ranger Football

One of my favorite things to do is take photos at the local sporting events.  I've been too busy this year to do much of it but you can check out my shots of this weeks game HERE.  We have several BODSQUADers on the team.  Win or lose I'm proud of these guys for working so hard.

   

Pre-School Hayride

Man this was fun.  The night was perfect and the kids had a ball.  Hotdogs, toasted marshmallows, and squealing little kids.  You can check out the photos HERE.

I love this.  No more religous games.  The next generation says we are either going to be hot or cold...(both positive by the way contrary to how most have taught or been taught) but we will NOT be luke-warm.  In or out.  No games.  Count me in.  DON'T BLINK!     

LifeChurch.tv All Staff

Steven Furtick was the second speaker at the October Event.  He is the pastor of a three year old church in Charlotte, NC called Elevation.  Elevation is seeing HUNDREDS come to Christ and be baptised.  Growing from nothing to over 4000 each weekend meeting in two schools.  NO PERMENANT FACILITIES.  Dude was on fire and spoke truth into the staff and Network pastors.  Among many things two stand out in my mind.  "You are a connector to the current of the power of Christ" and the idea of a dead spot on the front row.  A warning to us that we may be so close to the action that we might miss the magnitude of all that God is doing in and through us.  I think we can be very guilty of that very thing.
