I’ve been pretty pumped lately about
our initiative to PARTNER WITH PARENTS in Family ministry. It has us all “THINKing ORANGE”. This past weekend was another great reminder
of why it is so important for parents to be fully engaged in the spiritual
lives of their children.
Picture three generations sitting around a campfire after
dark. PaPa (my dad), my two brothers, me
(I’m not the youngest but I look it) and our five sons. Jake and Zach have their guitars out picking
through worship songs you would know.
Once in a while someone would sing a familiar part and at other times there
is just playing. The mood is sweet and
still. Time passes and then I notice
Will, the youngest of the bunch, has squeezed in between the two older cousins
and is singing away… That’s it… get it… family passing the baton of faith. No program, no schedule, no institution… no
substitute for the moments of life experienced by family. Family committed to Christ.
I am thankful. First,
for a family committed to Jesus Christ and training up children in the way of
faith. Second, for a church committed to
partnering with, not competing against, families as we strive to raise up the
next generation of believers. Parents,
grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins… let me encourage you to run the race
well. Invest in the lives of the next
generation. It matters… it matters for
all eternity.
Pass the baton…
